About us
Centralny Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Przemysłu Poligraficznego (COBRPP - Research & Development Centre for the Graphic Arts) is dedicated to research, development, implementation, education and publishing required by Polish graphic arts industry.
In 1958, under the auspices of the National Graphic Arts Co-operation, the Central Graphic Arts Laboratory (CLP) had been founded, which, after several mergers, became the Research & Development Centre for the Graphic Arts on January 1st, 1973.
The Centre operates according to statutory regulations approved by Ministry of Culture, which is the governing body since 1985.
In accordance with the regulations pertaining to research and development establishment in Poland, a Scientific Council and a Director supervise the Centre. Scientific Council's president, elected in 2008, is currently Professor Andrzej Makowski, Ph.D. Mr. Jerzy Hoppe, Ph.D, M.Sc., Eng. has been elected Director for his fourth term on August 1st, 2007.
All full term employees have M.Sc., Eng. or equivalent titles, including 6 with Ph.D. and three more working towards it. The Centre co-operates with many specialists from the industry, as well as with colleges and similar R&D establishments. During fifty years of activity, almost 800 people - many of them subsequently holding important industry posts - worked for the Centre.
Research & Development Centre for the Graphic Arts is also a member of Polish Chamber of Printing (Polska Izba Druku).
Our activities are mainly concentrated in the following areas:
- research, evaluation and development work important for industrial and commercial printing;
- developing, implementing and improving new solutions, materials, products, machines, processes and techniques in graphic arts;
- preparation, implementing and using coded identification systems (barcodes/RFID etc.);
- problems of graphic arts industry in context of European integration;
- management systems based on ISO requirements;
- health & safety and environmental issues in graphic arts;
- education and promotion, including support for Polish trade schools training graphic arts personnel;
- publishing.
The Centre regularly initiates, prepares and participates in trade conferences.
